Recognizing Excellence in OT Scholarship and Leadership

Pi Theta Epsilon celebrates outstanding achievements in occupational therapy research, education, and collaboration through a comprehensive awards program. These opportunities support PTE’s mission to advance scholarly activities and recognize exceptional contributions to the profession.

Research Awards

Mary J. Bridle First Research Award

Award Amount: $2,500 annually

The Mary J. Bridle First Research Award encourages students to engage in occupational therapy research by providing essential support for their first formal research projects

Eligibility: PTE members conducting original research

Application Process: Submit your research manuscript to the PTE national office

Deadline: October 2026 application deadline

Educational Scholarships

Martha J. Kirkland Endowed Scholarship

The Martha J. Kirkland Endowed Scholarship is one of over 50 scholarships available through AOTF and state occupational therapy associations. This scholarship provides financial support to PTE members pursuing their occupational therapy education.

Eligibility: PTE members conducting original research

  • Active PTE membership required
  • Enrolled in an accredited occupational therapy program

Application Information: The Martha J. Kirkland Endowed Scholarship is part of the AOTF’s comprehensive scholarship program

Chapter Recognition Awards

The President’s Award

The President’s Award honors and recognizes one or more PTE chapters that organize and implement outstanding scholarly activities demonstrating leadership and commitment to advancing the occupational therapy profession.

The President’s Award acknowledges chapters that exemplify PTE’s commitment to scholarship through well-designed, impactful events that:

  • Align with PTE’s mission
  • Contribute meaningfully to advancing the OT profession
  • Demonstrate innovation and excellence in scholarly programming

Application Information:

  • Each chapter may submit one application detailing one scholarly chapter event
  • Applications accepted on a rolling basis
  • Must be received by January 31 to be considered for that year

Recognition: Winning chapters are recognized at the PTE Annual Business Meeting

PTE Grant for Excellence in Interchapter Collaboration

PTE Grant for Excellence in Interchapter Collaboration honors and recognizes Pi Theta Epsilon chapters that excel in creating interchapter collaborations that support the PTE mission. This award celebrates collaborative efforts that expand the reach and impact of scholarly activities across multiple chapters.

Collaboration Requirements:

  • Organized and implemented by two or more chapters
  • Activities designed to increase knowledge and develop professional skills
  • Clear contribution to advancing the occupational therapy profession

Application Requirements:

  • Collaborative project description
  • Demonstration of multi-chapter participation
  • Applications accepted on a rolling basis
  • Must be received by January 31 to be considered for that year

Recognition: Winning chapters are recognized at the PTE Annual Business Meeting
