Recognizing Outstanding Chapter Scholarly Activities

The President’s Award honors and recognizes Pi Theta Epsilon chapters that organize and implement outstanding scholarly activities. This award celebrates chapters whose events increase knowledge, develop professional skills, and help advance the occupational therapy profession.

The President’s Award acknowledges chapters that exemplify PTE’s commitment to scholarship through well-designed, impactful events that:

  • Increase knowledge in occupational therapy
  • Develop professional skills among members
  • Contribute meaningfully to advancing the OT profession
  • Demonstrate innovation and excellence in scholarly programming

Who Can Apply:

  • Any active Pi Theta Epsilon chapter
  • Activities may be coordinated by a single chapter or multiple chapters working collaboratively

Activity Requirements:

  • Must have occurred within the past calendar year (January–December)
  • Must align clearly with PTE’s mission
  • Each chapter may submit one application detailing one scholarly chapter event

Submission Guidelines

Deadline: January 31 annually (midnight local time)

Submission Method: Email to the PTE National Office at pte@aotf.org

Review Process: Applications are accepted on a rolling basis with an annual review beginning January 31. The national PTE Executive Board evaluates all submissions.

Multiple Awards: When appropriate, a second award may be considered to distinguish outstanding individual and interchapter accomplishments.

Required Application Components

1. Chapter Information

  • Chapter Greek name
  • Chapter university
  • Contact Person’s Information
  • Address
  • Telephone number
  • Email address

2. Activity Coordination: Identify whether the activity was coordinated by one individual chapter or multiple chapters

3. Activity Description: Describe the activity conducted by your PTE chapter and explain why it was selected for submission

4. Mission Alignment: Describe the relationship between the activity and the mission of Pi Theta Epsilon

5. Goals and Outcomes: State the goal and/or the outcome(s) of the activity as it relates to the stated goal or purpose

6. Participant Response Summary: Provide a comprehensive summary regarding the response of activity participants. Include both:

  • Qualitative examples (e.g., participant quotes, testimonials, observations)
  • Quantitative examples (e.g., survey responses, attendance numbers, assessment data)

Publication: A description of the winning scholarly activity will be published in the Scroll & Pen newsletter

Ceremony: The winning chapter will be recognized at the PTE Annual Business Meeting during the AOTA Annual Conference

Professional Development: Award recipients gain recognition that enhances their chapter’s reputation and provides a model for scholarly excellence

Tips for a Strong Application

Demonstrate Impact

  • Provide specific examples of how the activity increased participant knowledge
  • Include measurable outcomes when possible
  • Share participant feedback that illustrates value

Show Mission Alignment

  • Clearly connect your activity to PTE’s core values of research, leadership, and scholarship
  • Explain how the event advances occupational therapy practice

Document Thoroughly

  • Collect participant feedback during or immediately after the event
  • Take photos and gather testimonials
  • Track attendance and engagement metrics

Highlight Innovation

  • Describe what made your activity unique or particularly effective
  • Explain creative approaches to engaging members or addressing professional development needs
