Ms. Kirkland is known to the AOTF as its former esteemed Executive Director for twenty-one years. Following her retirement from AOTF, she is now the Executive Vice President for the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) Foundation of Philanthropy, Inc. in Arlington, Virginia.

Martha received her BS in Occupational Therapy at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. Her clinical experience was primarily in mental health with adolescents and adults prior to joining AOTA where she worked in the Division of Continuing Education and became the Director of that division before coming to AOTF as the first full time Executive Director. She has received numerous honors and awards among them the AOTA and AOTF Joint President’s Commendation Award in Honor of Wilma L. West.  The AOTF Board also launched a campaign to fund the Martha Kirkland Leadership Legacy in her honor.
