Instructions for Applicants
Application deadline: November 1 annually, or as announced, pending available funding.


The Dissertation Research Grant program is aimed at providing assistance to U.S. based occupational therapists who are Ph.D. candidates studying in accredited graduate programs located at recognized universities. Preference is given to applications from candidates who are considering careers as scientists and those studying under the mentorship of faculty who have established lines of research directly related to advancing occupational therapy practice. Over the years, AOTF has shifted its emphasis in this program from one that supports doctoral education generally to one focused on supporting future clinical scientists. If an applicant's dissertation project does not clearly relate to the adopted research agenda for occupational therapy, or if it cannot be directly linked to a plan of continuing research that will provide evidence related to the effectiveness of practice, it is unlikely to be approved.
