Bethesda, Maryland - Eighteen Leadership Fellows from occupational therapy education programs completed their formal training program in advanced leadership development on October 3, 2009 in Denver, Colorado. This is the third class of leadership fellows completing the program sponsored by The American Occupational Therapy Foundation and the American Occupational Therapy Association.
The leadership fellows completed a ten month curriculum that included leadership assessment, self-evaluation, and group sessions that were held online and in face-to-face formats. The advanced training program, featuring a Mentoring Circles (c) process, emphasizes open communication, visioning, modeling, and enabling and encouraging others.
Ruth Ann Watkins, President of the American Occupational Therapy Foundation, was present during the closing ceremonies and noted that, "The fellowship program has been transformational for these academic leaders, but it will also benefit the profession, their educational settings, and the students they serve."
