  • Most states require membership. Again, check the requirements on the Availability and Eligibility page.

  • When are scholarships awarded?
  • The Scholarship Selection committee reviews applications, transcripts, and references in the spring. Scholarship winners are announced in May, 2008.

  • Are AOTF scholarships renewable?
  • No, scholarships are not renewable. However, winners may apply a second time if they are still enrolled in their programs. We have had several students win two years in a row.

  • Do I complete just one application for all of the scholarships that I am eligible for?
  • Yes, the Scholarship Selection Committee selects winners for each of the offered scholarships. If there are no qualified applicants for specific scholarships, those scholarships are not awarded.

  • I am a first year OT student. Am I eligible to apply?
  • You are eligible to apply. However, preference is given to students in the last two years of their occupational therapy education and during fieldwork education. If you are studying to become an occupational therapy assistant, you must be in your final year to be eligible.

  • I have attended several colleges. Do I need to have all of my transcripts sent?
  • We request that you have a transcript sent from your current school and from any prior schools where you have studied in preparation for your current OT program.

  • Must I report the scholarship award on my taxes?
  • According to the IRS Publication 520, entitled Scholarships and Fellowships, scholarships paid to students who are candidates for degrees at acredited educational institutions are tax free. For more information, see that publication. AOTF does not presume to provide tax information. For tax questions please refer to a CPA or acredited tax preparer.

  • I live with my parents, so how do I itemize my financial information?
  • Itemize your personal assets and liabilities and indicate the amount of their support in the space provided.

  • How do I submit my application?
  • There is a submit button in the main menu. Once you have completed all the sections of the application, click the submit button to submit your application. Prior to submitting your application, you can go back to any page and review your answers at any time up until the deadline. You must fill out each page completely and save it.

  • I am having trouble saving my Essay.
