The
A. Jean Ayres Award

1.
Purpose:
To recognize annually
occupational therapy clinicians, educators, and researchers
who have demonstrated sustained commitment to the application,
development, or testing of theory in occupational therapy.
The award is given in honor of A. Jean Ayres, PhD, OTR, whose
concentration on developing theory in support of practice
was of great significance to the profession of occupational
therapy.
2.
Eligibility:
a. Be initially
certified by the National Board for Certification in Occupational
Therapy, formerly the American Occupational Therapy Certification
Board.
b. Be a member
in good standing of the American Occupational Therapy Association.
c. Not be serving
as a member of the American Occupational Therapy Foundation
Board of Directors.
3.
Nomination Procedures:
a. Individual
American Occupational Therapy Association members or a group
of members are eligible to submit nominations.
b. Send five
(5) copies of the nomination package to the Chairman of
the AOTF Awards of Recognition Committee at P.O. Box 31220,
Bethesda, MD 20824-1220 by the established date.
I. Include nomination
form completed by the candidate.
II. Include letter of nomination.
III. Include
two (2) letters of support.
IV. Include current
curriculum vitae of candidate which must include a list
of publications, and/or presentations (seminars, symposia,
workshops, scientific papers, awards, and honors.)
V. Include reprints
of publications published in external professional journals
if applicable.
VI. Include a
recent photograph of nominee suitable for reproduction.
c. Include as
an addendum to the nomination letter, a short paragraph
of no more than 100 words to appear in professional publications
citing the nominee's contributions.
d. Individuals
nominated but not selected may be re-nominated in succeeding
years.

Criteria for Selection:
a. Type of contribution
(practice, education, or research)
b. Extent of
contribution (scope and depth)
c. Quality of
contribution
d. Sphere of
influence
e. Recognition
by others
f. Benefit to
the profession
5.
Method of Selection:
Up to two (2) candidates
may be selected each year. The Research Advisory Council will
review nominations and make recommendations to the AOTF Awards
of Recognition Committee to be submitted to the Board of Directors
for action.
6.
Awards Procedure and Recognition:
a. Recipients
will be acknowledged at the Annual Conference of the American
Occupational Therapy Association.
b. Recipients
will receive a plaque appropriately inscribed.
c. Recipients
will receive a $500.00 honorarium.
d. Recipients
will receive acknowledgement of the award in appropriate
professional publications.
