AMERICAN OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY FOUNDATION
2008-2009 AOTF SCHOLARSHIPS
Availability and Eligibility Requirements

Over 50 scholarships are available from the American Occupational Therapy Foundation (AOTF) and state occupational therapy associations during the academic year 2008-2009. Applicants must be currently enrolled and have completed at least 1 year of occupational therapy specific coursework in an AOTA accredited or developing post-professional level program OR enrolled in an occupational therapy assistant program.

Applicants are considered for all scholarships for which they qualify, but may receive only one scholarship per year. This year applications must be completed on line by November 11, 2008 at Midnight, Pacific Standard Time. Personal References and Program Director statements will also be collected online this year. Personal References must be completed by November 21, 2008 and Program Director Statements will be due by December 8, 2008. Winners will be notified by April 15, 2009.

QUALIFIED APPLICANTS MUST

  • Meet all eligibility requirements;
  • Be a member of the American Occupational Therapy Association;
  • For Post-baccalaureate scholarships, this must be the first degree in Occupational Therapy;
  • Have a sustained record of outstanding scholastic achievement;
  • Supply application data including:
    1. Two personal references
    2. Program Director's statement
  • Applicants for post-baccalaureate scholarships must be enrolled at the professional level in an accredited or developing Occupational Therapy educational program and have completed 1 full-year of Occupational Therapy specific coursework.
  • Applicants for occupational therapy assistant scholarships must be full-time students currently enrolled in the final year of an accredited or developing occupational therapy assistant educational program.

    STATE ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE IN 2008-2009

    Arizona - The Adelaide Ryerson Smith Memorial Award - One scholarship of $1000 for Arizona residents enrolled in any accredited occupational therapy educational program in the state of Arizona - Applicants must be members of the Arizona Occupational Therapy Association.

    Arkansas - The Florence Wood Scholarship - One scholarship of $500 to an Arkansas resident enrolled in an accredited occupational therapy educational program in Arkansas.

    Colorado - Two scholarships of $500 each for students studying in accredited academic occupational therapy programs in Colorado. One scholarship of $500 to be granted to an Associate degree occupational therapy student, and one scholarship of $500 to be granted to an occupational therapy student at the professional level. Recipients must be members of the Occupational Therapy Association of Colorado.

    District of Columbia - Two scholarships of $500 each for a student who is a resident of the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area (DC, MD and northern VA) enrolled in the occupational therapy educational program at Howard University. Applicants must be members of the District of Columbia Occupational Therapy Association.

    Kansas - Three scholarships of $500 for students enrolled in an accredited or developing occupational therapy program - one at the master's, one at the baccalaureate and one at the associate level. Applicants must be members of the Kansas Occupational Therapy Association.

    Louisiana - One scholarship of $500 for a Louisiana resident enrolled in an accredited occupational therapy educational program in Louisiana at the professional level.

    Maryland - The Henrietta Price Scholarship of the Maryland Occupational Therapy Association. One $500 scholarship to be awarded to an occupational therapy student at Towson University studying at either the Combined Bachelors and Master's or the Professional Master's degree level, and one $500 scholarship to be awarded to an occupational therapy student at Allegany College of Maryland or Community College of Baltimore County Catonsville at the occupational therapy assistant level. Recipients must be members in good standing of the Maryland Occupational Therapy Association.

    Massachusetts - The Karen Jacobs Scholarship - One scholarship of $500 for a Massachusetts resident enrolled in an accredited occupational therapy educational program in Massachusetts at the professional degree level. One scholarship of $250 for a Massachusetts resident enrolled in an accredited OTA program in Massachusetts. Applicants must be members of the Massachusetts Association for Occupational Therapy.

    Michigan - Two scholarships of $500 for students enrolled in an accredited occupational therapy educational program - one at the professional degree level and one at the associate degree level. Applicants must be members of the Michigan Occupational Therapy Association.

    New Hampshire - The Mary Eileen Dixey Scholarship - One scholarship of $2,000 for a New Hampshire resident enrolled in any accredited occupational therapy educational program in New Hampshire at the professional master's degree or associate degree level.

    New Mexico - The Julia D. Sweeney Scholarship - One scholarship of $500 for a New Mexico resident enrolled in any accredited occupational therapy educational program in New Mexico at the professional or associate degree level. Applicants must be members of the New Mexico Occupational Therapy Association.

    New York - Four scholarships for New York residents. Three scholarships of $1,000 each for New York residents enrolled in an accredited occupational therapy educational program in New York State at the professional degree level. One scholarship of $150 for a New York resident enrolled in an accredited occupational therapy educational program in New York State at the associate degree level. Applicants must be members of the New York Occupational Therapy Association.

    North Carolina - One scholarship of $750 to be awarded to an occupational therapy student at the associate level, and one scholarship of $750 to be awarded to an occupational therapy student at the professional level. Applicants must be members of NCOTA at the time of application for both scholarships.

    Ohio - Three scholarships for Ohio residents. One scholarship of $1000 for an Ohio resident enrolled in an accredited occupational therapy educational program in Ohio at the professional degree level. One scholarship of $1000 for an Ohio resident enrolled in an accredited occupational therapy educational program in Ohio at the associate degree level. The Rosa Hartsook Scholarship - one scholarship of $1000 for an occupational therapist who is a resident enrolled in a graduate educational program in Ohio in a field related to occupational therapy.

    Oklahoma - Two scholarships for Oklahoma residents. One scholarship of $500 for an Oklahoma resident enrolled in an accredited occupational therapy education program in Oklahoma at the professional degree level. One scholarship of $500 for an Oklahoma resident in an accredited or approved occupational therapy educational program in Oklahoma at the technical level. Applicants must be members of the Oklahoma Occupational Therapy Association.

    Oregon - One scholarship for Oregon residents. One scholarship of $1100 for an Oregon resident enrolled at Pacific University in the occupational therapy educational program.

    Pennsylvania - The Reba M. Sebelist Award - Two Scholarships for Pennsylvania residents. One scholarship of $500 for a Pennsylvania resident enrolled in an accredited occupational therapy educational program in Pennsylvania at the professional degree level. One scholarship of $500 for a Pennsylvania resident enrolled in an accredited occupational therapy educational program in Pennsylvania at the associate degree level. Applicants must be members of the Pennsylvania Occupational Therapy Association.

    South Carolina - The Chris Ebbers Scholarships. Two scholarships of $500 for South Carolina residents enrolled in accredited occupational therapy educational programs in South Carolina at the professional or associate degree level.

    Texas - Two scholarships for Texas residents. One scholarship of $2,000 for a Texas resident enrolled in an accredited occupational therapy educational program in Texas at the professional degree level. One scholarship of $2,000 for a Texas resident enrolled in an accredited occupational therapy educational program in Texas at the associate degree or certificate level. Applicants must be members of the Texas Occupational Therapy Association.

    Utah - Two scholarships for students who have been residents of Utah for two years and are currently enrolled in an accredited occupational therapy educational program - One scholarship of $350 for professional level and one scholarship of $250 for associate level. Applicants must be members of the Utah Occupational Therapy Association.

    West Virginia - Two scholarships for West Virginia residents enrolled in any accredited occupational therapy educational program in the United States at the professional or associate degree level. The Charlotte Prudich Award for $600 and the Elizabeth B. Devereaux Award for $150.

    Wisconsin - Two scholarships of $1,000 and one for $1,500 for Wisconsin residents or OT students in Wisconsin institutions of higher learning. One scholarship of $1,000 for a student enrolled in an accredited occupational therapy educational program in Wisconsin at the professional level and one scholarship of $1,000 for a student enrolled in an accredited occupational therapy program in Wisconsin at the associate degree level. One scholarship of $1,500 for a post-professional student at the Master's or Doctoral Degree levels in Occupational Therapy or a related field.
