2008 AOTF SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS ANNOUNCED
The Board of Directors of the American Occupational Therapy Foundation (AOTF) is honored to announce and congratulate the more than 50 deserving occupational therapy students around the country who have been selected to receive AOTF Scholarships in 2008.
AOTF's longstanding corporate partner, North Coast Medical, Inc., contributed generously to the Foundation's scholarship program in 2008. In funding the Foundation's two largest scholarships of $5,000 each, the company affirms the commitment of its founders, Frank and Lori Biehl, to promote excellence in the education of future occupational therapy professionals.
For the second year corporate partner, Progressus Therapy, is generously funding 3 scholarships of $1,000 each as testimony of its commitment to the Foundation's mission to provide financial support for emerging leaders in the occupational therapy practice.
The Foundation administers and awards several scholarships established in memory of prominent occupational therapy practitioners. In 2008, memorial scholarships are given in memory of Ilse Renee Achter, Naida Ackley, Diane Aja Blicksilver, Janice McGraw, Mary Minglen, Frank Oppenheimer, Ruth Peterson, Edith Weingarten, and Helen Willard and Clare Spackman. The Boards of AOTA and AOTF contributed a total of $1,000 to fund a scholarship in memory of Susan Lang, the late wife of AOTF Honorary Life Board Member, Donald Lang.
Endowed scholarships are awarded through the generosity of Ethel Beard Burstein in gratitude for her teachers and mentors, Willard and Spackman, who significantly influenced her occupational therapy education and career. The late Wilma West honored Carlotta Welles with a contribution to endow two scholarships at the assistant level. The education of occupational therapy assistants is a priority of Carlotta's extensive career.
For the 32nd consecutive year, Kappa Delta Phi sorority has generously made occupational therapy education the beneficiary of its national service activities. Their gift funds two professional level scholarships of $2,000 each in 2008.
The Foundation administers funds for scholarships provided through partnerships with 22 state occupational therapy associations and the Assembly of Student Delegates (ASD). In 2008, scholarships are awarded on behalf of the occupational therapy associations of 18 states, including two new state association partners: Colorado and Maryland.
The Board of Directors of the American Occupational Therapy Foundation congratulates all scholarship winners and wishes to thank the many occupational therapy students who applied for AOTF scholarships this year. The Board and staff gratefully acknowledge the unwavering dedication of the AOTF Scholarship Selection Committee who reviewed and rated the more than 225 scholarship applications this year.
