Meet AOTF
Did you know that, as an occupational therapist, you have a foundation that was created to strengthen your profession? AOTF – the American Occupational Therapy Foundation – is a nonprofit Foundation that is dedicated to supporting your profession today and for the future.
Funded by tax-deductible contributions from occupational therapists across the globe, the mission of AOTF is to advance research, education and public awareness for occupational therapy so that all people may participate fully in life regardless of their physical, social, mental or developmental circumstances.
Every day AOTF is making a real difference for so many people in our profession. Consider Amy, a beneficiary of AOTF’s scholarship program. Amy is a single mother who was drawn to occupational therapy while in college. Due to the demands of her program, Amy has had to support herself and her daughter with student loans.
Last year she learned that she had capped out on her student loans and was facing the decision of having to drop out of the program. The scholarship she received from AOTF has enabled her to complete her education as an occupational therapist.
In 2011, Harlan K. Temple, a South Dakota farmer, created the Harlan and Rita Temple South Dakota Occupational Therapy Association Endowed Scholarship to thank the profession that made a profound difference in his life. Temple was born with cerebral palsy and has been touched by the OTs through the years who stood by him and enabled him to be a farmer despite his many challenges. Read his inspiring story here.
Here are some of the activities, in addition to the AOTF Scholarship program, that tax-deductible donations make possible:
· Research support and publications for the discovery and dissemination of new approaches to practice through our Institute for the Study of Occupation and Health;
· Development and recognition of leadership in the field through Pi Theta Epsilon, the national honor society for occupational therapists;
· Publication of OTJR: Occupation, Participation and Health and a growing series of web-based resources for research, teaching, and leadership in occupational therapy.
Do your part to ensure that AOTF can continue to pursue its important work in support of our profession. Make a tax-deductible contribution of $25, $35, $50 or more today.
If you have questions or we can assist you in any way, please call Pamela Spears at 301-652-6611 (ext 2555) or pspears@aotf.org.
Thank you!
